SC East Bengal’s two transfer window ban has been overturned after the club appealed the embargo to the AIFF. The main reason behind the transfer ban being put into place was due to the non-payment of salaries of players who were released by the club during the era of Quess Corp and had their contracts unilaterally terminated by the club who cited Force Majeure due to COVID 19.

Pintu Mahata, Gurwinder Singh, Abhas Thapa and Rakshit Dagar — appealed to the AIFF to look into the matter and East Bengal were slapped with the transfer ban as punishment. Their trial has gone successfully, and the ban has been overturned which means that the club will now be able to sign new players for the upcoming season.

The Committee holds that the sporting sanction handed to the Club was too harsh. Hence, the ban on ‘registering any new players, for the two next entire and consecutive registration periods’, as imposed upon the Club via paragraph 5(vii) of the Impugned Decision, is set aside. https://t.co/RnPOxZYvFu

“We can sign players now. We had appealed against the two-window transfer ban which has been overturned by the appeals committee today,” a SCEB official said.

The committee that handled the situation concluded that the transfer ban handed to the club was too harsh a decision in the given situation and set aside the penalty that they put on the club.

East Bengal finished ninth out of the eleven clubs participating in the 2020-21 season of the ISL, which was their debut campaign in the top flight of Indian football. The Red and Gold Brigade will be determined to come back stronger this year, and the recruitment of new players will be essential in Robbie Fowler’s team doing a better job this time around.
