AIFF GS Shaji Prabhakaran given stay order by Delhi High Court

AIFF General Secretary Shaji Prabhakaran’s dismissal has been stayed by the Delhi High Court as part of their judgement of the issue. Prabhakaran was removed from his post because of a “breach of trust” but it remains uncertain as to what caused his expulsion from the governing body of Indian football.

The AIFF did not have a representative in court for the hearing, in spite of being informed of the matter. The next hearing is scheduled for December 20, and the court has asked for the relevant notices to be issued to those concerned.

Shaji Prabhakaran submitted a writ mentioning that his dismissal and the appointment of M Satyanarayan was done in breach of the AIFF constitution. And now, his dismissal will have to be approved by the legal system since he is still in place for the time being.

AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey signed the public statement that announced Prabhakaran’s dismissal. And in his response, he announced the decision as shocking and that the charges levied against him were nothing short of massive.

India are also at risk of a ban from FIFA due to third party intervention in their hierarchy. This would rule them out of the AFC Asian Cup in January, with the Blue Tigers having qualified for the tournament this year. However, it all depends on FIFA’s perception of the situation of the hierarchical structure at this point.
