Afghanistan’s national futsal team secured a historic qualification for the Futsal World Cup by defeating Kyrgyzstan 5-3. Scoring for Afghanistan were Omid Qanbari, Akbar Kazemi, Mahdi Noruzi, and Mehran Gholami, who netted twice.

This marks Afghanistan’s maiden qualification for the Futsal World Cup and a first for any SAARC country in a FIFA World Cup event, showcasing the nation’s sport development in recent years.

Afghanistan Futsal team makes history with FIFA World Cup qualification

The 10th Futsal World Cup is set to kick off on September 14, 2024, in Uzbekistan, with 24 teams vying for the title.

Joining the tournament for the first time are Afghanistan, France, New Zealand, and Tajikistan.

The Afghan national men’s futsal team is under the guidance of Iranian coach Majid Mortezaei.

The team’s qualification has been met with widespread acclaim, including congratulations from a Taliban spokesperson, who hailed it as a significant accomplishment.
