Advertising may soon appear in more apps on iPhone, but they won’t look like Android ads

As per the sources, we’ll probably see more adverts on your iPhone. Apple intends to roll out adverts that will show up when you look for restaurants or neighboring retailers inside more apps, including Maps, Books, and Podcasts, according to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg.

iPhone: Showing ads in Apps

These advertisements are not what you might expect. In other words, these ads are in no way comparable to those you might see on some Android phones. Using the same advertising strategy, Apple has been promoting particular apps in the App Store for a while.

The App Store displays an app right at the top of the results when you search for, say, a photo editing app. This is a promotion for the app, whose creator paid Apple to feature it.

As of right now, more Apple apps will use this advertising strategy, according to Gurman. Soon, the Maps, Books, or Podcasts apps’ search results may include promoted entities. Gurman claims that adverts in books and podcast applications will probably let publishers market their books and content producers’ work. A search bar is available on both apps for finding material.

However, Maps, Books, and Podcasts are all three of the apps ad-free. Apple may want to monetize app searches in the same way it does the App Store. Also Read: The Weather and Maps apps on Apple place Crimea under Ukraine

App Store and Advertisement

There will probably be some ad placement-related adjustments made to the App Store. According to Gurman, Apple may soon place adverts on the Today tab and the App Store’s app download sites. His information supports earlier stories from Apple Insider and 9to5Mac.

According to one of the stories, the advertisement will show up on the Today tab as a larger card. Apple will indicate that the app is an advertisement by placing the word “Ad” beneath its name. According to the article, adverts would show up under the “You Might Also Like” area on specific app pages.

Apple may see an opening for an ad-supported Apple TV+ subscription if commercials spread to additional apps. Gurman emphasized that a more affordable Apple TV+ subscription tier would put the company’s streaming offer on the level with competitors.

According to reports, Netflix and Disney+ are developing a basic subscription tier with the most affordable price and commercials. While Netflix and Apple TV+ in India offer an ad-free experience starting at Rs 149 and Rs 99 per month, respectively, Disney+ Hotstar offers both a paid and a free version.

Apple’s Advertising Game Plan

Apple hasn’t officially acknowledged anything yet, but based on its recent moves in the advertising space, we can make some assumptions about what the company might do.

Implementation of ATT

Apple purportedly introduced the App Tracking Transparency (ATT) feature in 2021 to protect user privacy. It enables Apple users to prevent third-party apps from gathering information about them when they browse the web, depriving advertisers of the data they need to target Apple users with relevant advertisements.

Over 75% of Apple customers, according to the sources, have enabled ATT, costing social media companies billions of dollars.

Introducing Ads into the Space Created by ATT

There are reasons to believe that ATT may not be as helpful to customers. However, because the function was created to operate outside of the Apple ecosystem, it does not protect you while inside it, even though Apple definitely benefits from it. To choose which ads to deliver, Apple uses data from its other services and the Apple account, according to Gurman.

In reality, Apple does let you turn off personalized advertising (go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Apple Advertising). This should aid in protecting your data even within the Apple environment. Even though 78% of iOS 15 users have also turned off ad personalization, Apple still knows their provider’s identification, device kind, and what they learn.
