Adnan Januzaj has joined Turkish club Istanbul Basaksehir on a loan move until the end of the season. The transfer window in Turkey is open until February 8, with players across Europe still able to seal a move.
He made only six appearances for Sevilla this season, and following the arrival of Bryan Gil from Tottenham, he has fallen further down the pecking order. As a result, Januzaj has moved on in search of more playing time which he wouldn’t have had under Jorge Sampaoli.
Adnan Januzaj signs for Istanbul Basaksehir
Januzaj played for Manchester United a decade ago under David Moyes. However, he wasn’t able to reach his full potential and went on to leave the club. He was able to revive his career playing for Real Sociedad a couple of seasons ago, before eventually making the move to Sevilla.
But with the departure of Julen Lopetegui, things have not worked out for the Belgian at his new club. And now, the hope is that Adnan Januzaj will be able to perform better in Turkey. However, with three years still left on his contract with Sevilla, he could be set for a permanent departure in the summer.
The Basque side have had a very poor season so far, and they are only a couple of points away from the relegation zone. From being regulars in Europe to fighting to stay up, things have taken a dramatic turn for the club.
