Activision Acknowledges Anti-Cheat Issues in Black Ops 6 Launch

After facing criticism from players, Activision has solved the cheating problems in its latest title, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Cheaters have been undermining the mode’s integrity, frustrating players since the launch on November 21. However, as is often the case with Call of Duty, console players have also been turning off crossplay to evade PC cheaters.

Activision Acknowledges Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Anti-Cheat Issues at Season 1 Launch

Activision’s Team Ricochet, which handles the publisher’s anti-cheat technology, acknowledged in a new blog post that it hadn’t done enough work to stop cheating from being a problem at the start of Season 1, and particularly in Ranked Play. While it’s the company’s initial approach was a little lacking, F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali confirmed that the system has since been reinforced to help bring an end to cheating in every mode.

Due to how popular the leaderboards for Ranked Play are, Activision noted that this mode tends to attract cheaters, and they aimed to return a fair competitive space to all players. Thousands of accounts have already been deleted, and hourly account bans are being implemented. The company’s process of cleaning up Ranked leaderboards has also stepped up, and they have enhanced their Replay Investigation tools, which assist in finding and removing cheaters more efficiently.

Activision is also working on more Ricochet Anti Cheat improvements for Season 2 and 3 updates, including a new kernel-level driver and improved server-side protections. Players can also help by enabling two-factor authentication (2FA) and reporting cheaters in-game.

Activision explained that cheaters tend to go for things that take effort to get, like Ranked Play status and camos because they are doing it for the end reward without having to put in the work to get it. Though the company has made strides, it admits there’s still work to be done and that future progress will be shared early next year.

Yet the community remains skeptical, even as Activision has spent millions on developing its anti-cheat technology and has also taken legal action against cheat makers. The company remains committed to identifying and removing cheaters, relying on advanced machine learning and behavioral systems to improve detection and analysis.
