Barcelona‘s fortunes have been on a downward spiral since Lionel Messi’s departure in the summer. For the first time since the Argentine’s debut, the team exited the Champions League in the group stages. They were also eliminated from the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup.
About Messi’s Performance
Messi’s performance after leaving his boyhood club has been comparable. Even though he continues to rack up assists, his goal-scoring form in Paris has been far from ideal. There are hints of an operation to bring the club legend back home, according to El Chiringuito TV, with him mulling a homecoming.
Barcelona shocked the world on August 5th when they announced that their captain and legend would be leaving the club due to financial limitations. Despite the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner accepting a significant wage cut, it was claimed that the club would not be able to renew his contract.
PSG and Messi
Paris Saint-Germain jumped in and quickly arranged with the player. In Ligue 1, however, Messi’s life has been far from ideal. He has one goal and five assists in 12 games for the French League. In the Champions League, though, he has been in incredible form, scoring five goals in as many games.
The doors at Camp Nou are always open for Messi. However, after letting him go less than a year ago, it would be astonishing if the club could afford his salaries now.
Despite not playing for Barcelona, the Argentine is frequently seen around the Catalan capital. He was last seen in the Catalan capital on Monday night with Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba.
