Italian newspaper Tuttosport reports that AC Milan are planning to sign James Rodriguez this summer for €10 million. The player has only been at Everton for one season, and is looking to move on quickly.
The main reason behind him wanting to move away from Goodison Park is the departure of Carlo Ancelotti. The Italian manager was crucial to the Colombian’s success at Real Madrid. He was also the man responsible for bringing Rodriguez to Bayern Munich, and subsequently, Everton.
However, Ancelotti returned to Real Madrid to replace Zinedine Zidane at the club. And that has left the playmaker’s future up in the air. The arrival of Rafa Benitez at the club is also not enough to make him want to stay, so, a transfer to Italy seems on the cards.
The move would make sense for Milan as well. They recently lost Hakan Calhanoglu to city rivals Inter Milan on a free transfer, and need a prolific playmaker at the club. While Rodriguez does fit the bill, his humongous wages could be a problem for the club. They had to let go of Gigio Donnarumma and Calhanoglu for similar financial reasons.
Should Rodriguez keep fit, unlike his time at Everton, he could be a great signing for the Rossoneri. Milan have already made Sandro Tonali’s transfer from Brescia, as well as Fikayo Tomori’s move from Chelsea permanent, and are trying hard to bring Brahim Diaz back from Real Madrid on loan.
