If you loved **Kim Hyang Gi** in her earlier teen‑centric, coming‑of‑age roles, her new drama **“Absolute Value of Romance”** will feel like a fresh, fun, and slightly cheeky evolution. The Coupang Play series follows **high school student Yeo Eui‑Ju (Kim Hyang Gi)**, a quiet girl who secretly writes a **BL‑style romance novel** starring her **handsome teachers** as the main characters. When those same teachers start crossing her path in real life at the most awkward, unexpected moments, her once‑peaceful school days spiral into a **romantic comedy with a twist**.

## Who Are Kim Hyang Gi’s Four Very Different “Teacher” Idols?

| Actor | Character vibe in “Absolute Value of Romance” |
| --- | --- |
| **Cha Hak‑yeon** | A **Mensa‑level math teacher** with a sharp brain, cool demeanor, and a quietly intense side; basically the “perfect genius” BL hero fans love to imagine.  |
| **Kim Jae‑hyun** | A **chatty, extroverted Japanese‑language teacher** who “falls in love quickly,” bringing bubbly, heart‑on‑his‑sleeve charm and comic relief.  |
| **Son Jeong‑hyeok** | A more **reserved, sensitive figure**, likely the “mood‑setter” teacher who feels poetic, a bit tortured, and very novel‑worthy.  |
| **Kim Dong‑gyu** | Rounded‑out crew member whose personality will lean into **stern‑yet‑caring authority**, balancing the lighter, fluff‑ier energy of the others.  |

Together, this group of four gives **“Absolute Value of Romance”** a “flower‑boy teacher squad” feel, but each one carries a **distinct emotional flavour**—from the “class genius” to the “chaotic warm‑hearted” teacher—making Eui‑Ju’s fictional BL world and her real‑life encounters equally irresistible.

## Why This Teacher–Student Dynamic Works

The central hook—**a student secretly writing BL about her own teachers**—sits at a clever intersection of:

- **Teen fantasy and harmless fandom humour**: The drama treats BL‑writing as a private, creative outlet; it’s more about imagination and romantic idealisation than anything explicit, keeping the tone light and relatable.
- **Awkward, realistic school‑life drama**: When these same teachers show up in cafés, parks, or school‑trip settings, Eui‑Ju’s “characters come to life” in ways that blur fantasy and reality, creating a sweet, cringe‑friendly swirl of misunderstandings and chemistry.
- **Actor‑power balance**: Kim Hyang Gi is already a beloved teen‑to‑young‑adult star, while **Cha Hak‑yeon, Kim Jae‑hyun**, and the rest represent a range of “teacher‑idol” types fans can project onto, making the whole cast a magnet for both character‑driven and OTP‑style discourse.

## **FAQs**

### **Q: What exactly does Eui‑Ju do in “Absolute Value of Romance”?**

A: She secretly writes a **BL‑style romance novel** starring her handsome teachers, then gets dragged into real‑life chaos when those same teachers keep showing up in her everyday life.

### **Q: Are Cha Hak‑yeon and Kim Jae‑hyun actually playing BL couples or just fictional characters in her story?**

A: The **BL romance is framed as her fictional novel**, not a confirmed on‑screen couple in the “real‑world” plot, though the drama leans heavily into the “will‑they‑or‑won’t‑they” and fan‑ship‑style energy fans expect.
