Intel launched its 12th Gen Alder Lake processors for quite some time now, however, its non-K i.e. non-overclockable CPUs have just been announced at CES 2022 and we are yet to see them in the market yet. So, as per leaks, these CPUs have really shown good potential even though they have an affordable price tag which in turn is a worrying sign for AMD.
The best part about Intel now is they are targeting the entry-level and mid-range market which AMD has not been keen into. Now, we know overclocking Intel chips is relatively a better solution and while everyone thought BCLK OC functionality was only limited to Z690 motherboards, Der8auer confirmed that even Intel Alder Lake non-K CPUs can be overclocked on B660 motherboards
Roman, who purchased both an expensive and a relatively less expensive ASUS ROG STRIX B660 motherboards to compare, found both the ASUS ROG STRIX B660-I and ROG STRIX B660-F supports BCLK overclocking. However, the sad part is the feature is limited to B660 motherboards that come with DDR5 memory support, so, if one has to overclock, he or she has to bear the expensive DDR5 RAM costs.
Overclocking the bus speed could be difficult in B660 motherboards, so the YouTuber had to do this via full manual mode and explained with a guide for you to do so. The video shows ASUS’s BIOS will confirm that BCLK overclocking is enabled at the last step.
As you see in the screenshots, with all cores boosting to 5GHz, the Core i5-12400 reaches Ryzen 7 5800X level Cinebench R20 Multi-Core performance even though it comes with 2 fewer cores. So, if one wants to overlock his or her new 6-core Alder Lake CPU, one can easily do so even on an affordable B660 motherboard and get a huge performance bump.
