Realme plans to increase its sales in 2021

Realme is a brand that started as a new entrant in the market of smartphone production but ended up becoming one of the leading smartphone manufacturers of Asia. As the company performed extremely well in 2020, it is interesting to know that the manufacturer has some interesting plans for the new year.

The company expects its sales to grow by over 30% to about 25-30 million units this year in India. It is also quite confident that is its wearable and audio products that saw good sales in 2020, will also bring in considerable figures in 2021.

Realme India CEO Madhav Sheth said 2020 was a “phenomenal year” for the company, and he claims Realme clocked a 25% rise in smartphone sales at about 19 million units.

“Even though we lost a quarter of sales due to supply chain disruptions, I believe there was an opportunity in disguise and Realme grew by around 25% (from 15 million in 2019 to 19 million in 2020). I think the minimum would be nothing less than 25-30 million handsets, that’s what we are targeting for 2021.”

It’s not new that smartphone manufacturers saw an increase in their sales in the year 2020, as due to the pandemic public reliance on technology increased by many folds. As such, the smartphone sector of India, Asia’s second-largest market saw tremendous gains.

According to sources, Xiaomi managed to achieve a market share of 25% in the September quarter shipments, followed by Samsung (22.3%), Vivo (16.7%), Realme (14.7%), and Oppo (11.3%).

“People are looking for more value for money, it’s not about the cheaper phone, but one that gives them the value for money…We have always been a product-driven company and we understand consumers well. The replacement cycles have got longer and consumers are looking for a long-term product, something that involves lesser visits to service centres gives them value for money and brings in innovations. And Realme checks all these boxes and that gives us the confidence for growth this year.”
