Now that the winter transfer window is open, players with less than 6 months remaining on their current contracts can enter negotiations with other clubs regarding a pre-contract agreement that will allow the players to switch teams for free in the summer when the season is in the history books.Â
Arguably one of the best players who will be available for less than a bag of chips is Bayern Munich star David Alaba. The Austrian has been linked with many top clubs in Europe, with all of them interested in securing the services of the defender. However, the player himself dreams of playing for Barcelona or Real Madrid.
Commenting on the situation, AS mentioned that David Alaba to Real Madrid had one big problem, the finances. That is the main reason why Alaba is moving on from Bayern Munich in the first place, and with the current situation, Madrid are not very financially well off to match his demands.
The publication reports that Alaba is demanding a sum of €10 million per season after taxes, which roughly amounts to double that number before the deductions are made. Madrid only pay Karim Benzema that sum and the striker has been the single most valuable asset in Madrid’s offence ever since the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo in 2018.Â
The general conclusion is that if Alaba wants to play for Real Madrid, he will have to lower his salary expectations since the club is not in a position to match his sky-high wage demands right now.Â
