With the January transfer window now open, players who have 6 months remaining on their contracts are now allowed to negotiate with other clubs regarding a pre-contract agreement that will allow the players to join for free when their contract expires.

Real Madrid’s Sergio Ramos and Luka Modric find themselves in that very situation, but their loyalty to the club is something that the management are counting on.

Speaking on the situation on the Here We Go podcast on Patreon, Fabrizio Romano and Francesco Porzio said that Madrid will be waiting to settle the contract situation with both Modric and Ramos.

The Croatian has accepted a one year deal with Madrid that will extend his stay at the club till the end of the 2022 season. He has made no secret of his desire to possibly retire at Real Madrid and being 36 when the next season ends, the player will have the chance to do just that should he feel like calling it a day.

Ramos, on the other hand, has been persistent on his demands for a two year deal. The Madrid skipper has been offered only a one year extension by the club, with the same salary that he is being paid in his current club.

According to the Italian journalists, somebody is going to have to change their stance on the contractual situation. As of right now, no one is willing to compromise just yet.
