Manchester City centre-back Eric Garcia has been on the radar of his former club, Barcelona, for quite some time now. The arrival of Ruben Dias and the resurgence of John Stones’ form, along with Aymeric Laporte’s consistency has pushed the youngster way back in the line for minutes on the pitch.
According to Italian transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, the Catalonians have reached total agreement with their former player regarding a return to Camp Nou in the summer. The official decision of the player is yet to be announced.
Garcia is set to be a Barcelona player at the end of the season for sure. However, due to the current situation of personnel at Ronald Koeman’s squad, they might have to negotiate beforehand since Gerard Pique is effectively ruled out for the season, and the packed fixture schedule could cause more injuries in the games to come.
Barcelona tried to sign their former player back in the summer, bidding €10 million for his services, with one year left on his contract with the Premier League club. However, City rejected Barcelona’s advance and now will have to let him go for free if the buyers don’t submit another bid in the ongoing transfer window.
Pep Guardiola and Manchester City made plenty of attempts to try and convince Garcia to stay, but the player was always keen on heading back to Camp Nou.
Romano also mentioned that the pre-contract agreement would have to wait till Barcelona have a new President, which will be at the end of this month. The deal is set to be successful for sure, unless the new president has other plans for the future.
All the minor and major details of Garcia’s return to Barcelona have been agreed between the two parties, and it is only a matter of time before we see the Spaniard don a Barcelona shirt again.
