Suryakumar Yadav Just Broke a Huge Record and got past Temba Bavuma

If you’re a cricket enthusiast, the name Suryakumar Yadav is likely already etched in your memory. But in IPL 2025, SKY—as he’s affectionately known—has elevated his game to legendary status.

This season, Suryakumar Yadav has not only powered the Mumbai Indians into the playoffs but also shattered a world record for consistency that has left fans, analysts, and even his rivals in awe. Let’s explore how Suryakumar’s extraordinary run has redefined what it means to be a T20 batter and why his story is captivating the cricketing world.

Suryakumar Yadav: The Epitome of Consistency in T20 Cricket

On May 26, 2025, during a high-stakes IPL match between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Mumbai Indians (MI), Suryakumar Yadav achieved a feat never before seen in T20 cricket.

By scoring more than 25 runs for the 14th consecutive T20 match, he broke the previous world record held by South Africa’s Temba Bavuma, who had managed 13 such scores between 2019 and 2020. This wasn’t just a personal milestone—it was a statement to the cricketing world about the value of reliability and form in the shortest and most unpredictable format of the game.

The Numbers Behind the Streak: A Statistical Marvel

To truly appreciate Suryakumar’s achievement, it’s important to understand the context. Scoring 25 or more in a T20 match might sound routine, but doing it game after game, against the world’s best bowlers, under the immense pressure of the IPL, is a feat of both mental and technical mastery. Here’s a look at Suryakumar’s scores in IPL 2025 leading up to the record:

29(26), 48(28), 27*(9), 67(43), 28(26), 40(28), 26(15), 68*(30), 40*(19), 54(28), 48*(23), 35(24), 73*(43), 57(39).

Each of these innings contributed not just to his personal tally but also to Mumbai Indians’ campaign, helping them secure a coveted playoff spot. In a league where form can be fleeting and pressure immense, Suryakumar’s ability to deliver every single match is nothing short of remarkable.

Breaking More Than One Record

Suryakumar’s 14 consecutive 25+ scores aren’t just a world record—they’re also the most in a single IPL season. Previously, this record was shared by Kane Williamson (2018) and Shubman Gill (2023), both of whom managed 13 such scores. Now, Suryakumar stands alone at the top.

But the records don’t stop there. With 640 runs and five half-centuries in IPL 2025, Suryakumar has also become the highest run-scorer for Mumbai Indians in a single season, surpassing the legendary Sachin Tendulkar’s 618 runs from 2010. It took 15 years for someone to break that record, and it’s fitting that it was Suryakumar—a player known for his flair, innovation, and reliability.

What Makes Suryakumar Yadav So Special?

Cricket is a game of numbers, but Suryakumar’s story is about more than just stats. It’s about a player who has mastered the art of T20 batting, blending aggression with composure.

His ability to find gaps, play unconventional shots, and accelerate at will makes him a nightmare for bowlers. But perhaps his greatest strength is his mindset—never getting carried away by success, always hungry for more.

As India’s T20I captain, Suryakumar leads by example. His performances inspire not just his teammates but also millions of aspiring cricketers who dream of making it big. In a format where fortunes can change in a single over, his consistency is a beacon of what’s possible with hard work and self-belief.

The Impact on Mumbai Indians and IPL 2025

Mumbai Indians have always been a team that thrives on big moments and big players. This season, Suryakumar has been their talisman.

His runs at the top of the order have given MI the platform to dominate games, and his presence in the dressing room has lifted the entire squad. With the playoffs approaching, MI fans will be hoping that SKY’s golden run continues and leads them to another title.

For the IPL as a whole, Suryakumar’s record is a reminder of the league’s ability to produce and showcase world-class talent. Every season brings new heroes, but few have captured the imagination quite like SKY in 2025.

Why Suryakumar’s Record Matters

In the fast-paced world of T20 cricket, consistency is often overlooked in favor of explosive performances. But Suryakumar Yadav’s record is a testament to the value of steady, reliable contributions. It’s a blueprint for young cricketers: you don’t have to score a century every game, but if you can deliver 25+ runs consistently, you’ll be invaluable to your team.

His achievement also highlights the evolution of T20 batting. It’s no longer just about power hitting; it’s about adaptability, shot selection, and mental toughness. Suryakumar embodies all these qualities, making him the most complete T20 batter in the world right now.
