When we talk about LCDs, the first name that pops up in our mind is Samsung. The company has a long history of producing the displays and is at a peak when it comes to making their displays more innovative and attractive.

Recent reports from Samsung has stated that the company is planning to indefinitely extend the production of LCD panels for TVs and monitors as the demand for these products has increased during the COVID-19 pandemic.

It is a calculated decision from the company, even though we know that OLED and mini-LED panels have been garnering attention slowly in the market. Nonetheless, it is a fact that for the next few years, we will hardly see any OEM adopting any other display except the LED.

As such, Samsung announced the extended production of its LCD panels. Earlier, due to the advancement in mini-LED and OLED technologies, Samsung had stated that it will end the production of its LCD panels by the end of this year. And that it would start focusing on new display technologies. But, after seeing the market demand for the LCD panels the company seems to have changed its mind.

However, when asked about the duration of the production’s continuation, Samsung stated that the length would depend on the market conditions and profitability. Due to the pandemic, Samsung realized the demand to increase the production of its LCDs. Even though the company is focusing on the development of next-gen display technologies, it still is not willing to let go of the sector which brings more profit.
