Intel XeSS 2: Intel’s upscaling technology XeSS (Xe Super Sampling) is making steady progress in the competitive world of gaming performance enhancers. As of this month, the original XeSS is supported in over 200 PC games, while its newer and more advanced sibling, XeSS 2, has officially been adopted by 19 titles — a significant leap from just a handful a few months ago.

Intel XeSS Technology Hits New Milestone: 200+ Games Supported, XeSS 2 Expands to 19 Titles

What Is XeSS and Why It Matters

Initially launched three years ago, Intel XeSS is a performance-boosting technology that uses AI-based upscaling and temporal data to improve frame rates and image quality in games — particularly on lower-end hardware. While NVIDIA DLSS and AMD FSR have dominated the space, Intel’s XeSS is catching up by expanding support and improving its capabilities with XeSS 2.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows: A New Benchmark for XeSS 2

The headline title among XeSS 2’s new additions is Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, scheduled to release on May 19. According to Intel, turning on XeSS 2 in this AAA title more than doubles the FPS compared to native resolution — jumping from around 30–40 FPS to over 80 FPS on an Intel Arc B580 GPU.

In terms of image quality, XeSS 2 rivals native resolution thanks to advanced AI-based upscaling, providing a smoother, sharper visual experience.

XeSS 2 Performance Gains: From Unplayable to Smooth

Intel’s recent performance showcase highlighted massive gains in popular titles like Marvel Rivals and Rise of the Ronin:

  • Marvel Rivals: From 43 FPS (native) to 138 FPS (with XeSS 2)
  • Rise of the Ronin: From 37 FPS to 100 FPS

These figures prove the real-world impact XeSS 2 can have, particularly for gamers on mid-range and budget systems. Intel’s Arc B580 GPU, priced at $250, combined with XeSS 2, provides a compelling value proposition for cost-conscious gamers.

Expanding Ecosystem: More Support Coming Soon

XeSS 2, which debuted with only a couple of supported games earlier this year, is now officially supported in 19 games, with more on the way. Thanks to the release of the XeSS 2 SDK, developers are now more easily integrating this technology into their engines.

The broader XeSS ecosystem now includes over 200 games, marking Intel’s strong intent to stay competitive in the AI upscaling race alongside NVIDIA and AMD.

Not Just for Intel GPUs

One major advantage of XeSS is its hardware-agnostic design. While Intel Arc GPUs and Intel Core Ultra 9 285H processors see the best results, XeSS doesn’t require exclusive Intel hardware, allowing a broader user base to benefit from performance improvements.

A Solid Step Forward for Intel Gaming

Intel’s gaming tech may still be catching up to its rivals, but XeSS and XeSS 2 are rapidly gaining ground, helping to make more games enjoyable for a wider range of hardware. With 19 games now supporting XeSS 2 and over 200 embracing the original XeSS, Intel is demonstrating a serious commitment to gamers and developers alike.
