Head coach Bibiano Fernandes has confirmed the 23-player squad that will represent India at the SAFF U19 Championship 2025, scheduled to take place in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, from May 9 to 18.
The Blue Colts landed in the city on April 30 with a 25-member shortlist and began on-ground training after wrapping up an extensive preparatory camp in Bengaluru.

Fernandes Applauds Talent, Process
Bibiano Fernandes, a seasoned tactician who has already delivered three SAFF youth titles for India, praised the scouting efforts and the determination of the young footballers. “We started more than a month back in Bengaluru with around 50 scouted players, who appeared for the trials. I was not surprised when I saw the talent that these boys have. I was really happy with the quality of scouting conducted to find these players. It has been a long process of building the team from there on,” he said.
Fernandes carefully observed the trial matches and handpicked his final 23 after multiple rounds of training sessions and intra-squad games.
He also highlighted the strategic decision to reach Itanagar early, giving players enough time to adapt. “It was nice of the Federation to get us here early to acclimatise to the altitude, the ground, the weather, and everything else. We’ve also played some practice matches, both in Bengaluru and in Itanagar, which have really helped us develop as a team,” he added.
Support From Host State Lauded
Fernandes credited the Arunachal Pradesh government and the All India Football Federation (AIFF) for creating a conducive environment for the team’s preparation. “We’re thankful to the Arunachal Pradesh government and everyone who is working behind the scenes to give us the best facilities available. I have no doubt that going forward, we will be in safe hands,” said the 48-year-old.
