After the batting disaster in the first Test, India replied back in the second Test right from Day 1. In the first innings, Indian bowlers restricted Australia within 191. Indian pacers did a great job yesterday. Today Indian batsmen capitalized on the momentum. Indian skipper Ajinkya Rahane has put India in the driving seat at the stumps of day 2 with a fine century.
India are now 277/5 at the stumps of Day 2. Ajinkya Rahane and Ravindra Jadeja were at the crease at the end of the day with 104 and 40 runs respectively. India came onto the field with 36 runs on the board losing just one wicket. Pat Cummins took the wickets of debutant Subhaman Gill (45) and experienced Cheteswar Pujara (17). Nathan Lyon took the wicket of Hanuma Vihari (21) and Mitchell Starc took the wicket of Rishabh Pant (29).
But Ajinkya took the whole show today. Indian skipper took the captaincy responsibility in the absence of Virat Kohli who is hoping for his first child soon. Rahane led from the front in the tough bouncy pitch of Australia. His performance was appreciated by the former players and the fans.
Virender Sehwag Tweeted, “Brilliant hundred by Ajinkya Rahane. Determination and class.”
Yuvraj Singh also praised the Indian skipper. Yuvi also praised Jadeja and Gill. He said, “A captains 100 solid, gritty and calm just like his personality Ajinkya Rahane sharp mind in field setting as well ! Jadeja looking great how good has he become batting lower down the order for India. Great start for Shubman Gill. We are looking good for a decent lead.”
India now have 82 runs lead in the first Innings and would hope to take a significant lead after a decent start.
