Renowned display manufacturer from China, Tianma is currently planning on shipping 40 million OLED display panels in 2021, in which 20 million panels are flexible OLEDs. Tianma has set this goal a long time ago, back in August 2020. As per the market research, this company has already shipped around a million OLED panels this year during the global pandemic situation. So, next year, Tianma is looking to ship a huge figure of it, around 40 million OLED panels. Now, it will interesting to see if really Tianma can fetch its goal in 2021 of shipping 40 million units, as it looks like it will only be able to ship 7.5 million OLED panels in the next year.
As of now, the company is in the works to place orders for equipment for its 6th gen OLED factory, TM18. This equipment is very much important for producing panels as it has a production capacity of 48,000 substrates per month which is even higher than the current-gen TM17’s 37,500 substrates production capacity and it is expected that this equipment will be placed in the factory by the first half of 2022. Apart from it, Tianma is also producing rigid OLED panels at its TM15 factory in Shanghai. These rigid OLED panels are about to be used by several smartphone manufacturers: Xiaomi, Lenovo, Asus, HTC, and LG Electronics.
Popular smartphone makers Xiaomi, Vivo, and Honor have already tested Tianma’s flexible OLED panels. Apart from Tianma, Xiaomi may sign a partnership with another display maker. So, in the next couple of years, we will be definitely going to see a bunch of premium smartphones having flexible OLED panels from different manufacturers.
