Samsung’s upcoming foldable smartphones, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Galaxy Z Fold 7, are expected to bring some minor yet notable upgrades. These are the redesigned hinge, slightly bigger battery for the Flip, and 200MP camera book-style Fold. The boring part was uncovered by the recent certification from China’s 3C (Compulsory Certification of China), and it’s related to charging speed.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, Flip 7 Certified with 25W Charging, No Upgrade in Fast Charging Speed

While we’ve seen some improvement in battery life, primarily from more efficient processors, Samsung hasn’t moved the needle much on charging speeds. Samsung’s first foldables with 25W wired charging the Z Fold 2 (2020) and the Z Flip 4 (2022) haven’t seen major improvements since. The two upcoming devices are listed under the model numbers SM-F7660 and SM-F9660 on the 3C website, and they were both tested with the same EP-TA800 charger.

This charger has a maximum output of 25W (9V/2.77A) It is expected that these are the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Galaxy Z Fold 7 going to Samsung’s model numbering system. Though this listing does not directly confirm that 25W will be the maximum charging speed, certification tests typically make use of the highest offered speed with an official charger. We can expect an upgrade in battery capacity for at least one of the devices. Reports have suggested that the Galaxy Z Flip 7 will pack a 4,300mAh battery, a bit bigger than the 4,000mAh battery of the past generation.

The Galaxy Z Fold 7, on the other hand, retains the same 4,400mAh battery. Samsung may also make for larger display sizes. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 is expected to feature a 6.85-inch foldable display and a 4-inch cover display, while the Galaxy Z Fold 7 could come with a 6.5-inch cover screen and an 8.2-inch foldable screen. While these changes may enhance the overall experience, the lack of faster charging could be a letdown for some users.
