WPL 2025 Blow: Pooja Vastrakar, Asha Sobhana Ruled Out Due to Injuries

Replacements Announced

Mumbai Indians: Parunika Sisodia Replaces Pooja Vastrakar

MI will now rely on Parunika Sisodia, a young left-arm finger spinner who recently shone at the Under-19 World Cup. While she isn’t a direct replacement for Vastrakar, her impressive five-wicket haul in the semi-final and final of the tournament has boosted her credibility.

MI could have considered Akshita Maheshwari, a seam-bowling all-rounder with 23 wickets in the Under-23 Women’s One Day Trophy last season, including two hat-tricks. However, they opted for Sisodia, who joins MI for ₹10 lakh.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru: Nuzhat Parween Steps in for Asha Sobhana

RCB faces additional woes with Asha Sobhana’s absence, particularly since key players Shreyanka Patil and Ellyse Perry are also battling fitness concerns. Asha’s performance in WPL 2024, where she took 12 wickets in 10 games at an economy of 7.11, was crucial to RCB’s title-winning campaign.

To fill the void, RCB has signed Railways wicketkeeper-batter Nuzhat Parween for ₹30 lakh. She has represented India in five T20Is and recently scored 134 runs at a strike rate of 101.51 in the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy.

WPL 2025: Season Kick-off

The Women’s Premier League 2025 kicks off on February 14, with defending champions RCB facing Gujarat Giants in Vadodara. Despite early injury blows, teams will look to capitalize on their new signings and push for WPL glory.
