Death, Taxes and Ousmane Dembele getting injured are the constants of life. In what has been a ridiculous weekend for Barcelona, they not only managed to concede defeat to Cadiz in a poor showing but also endured insult to injury
The Frenchman got injured again in Barcelona’s match against Cadiz and is confirmed to have suffered an elongated muscle in his right hamstring. There is currently no set timescale on the winger’s return yet.
Since making a move worth in excess of €100 million from Borussia Dortmund, Dembele has had an injury-plagued tenure in Spain. Barcelona fans will be left even more frustrated given that he came off the bench against Cadiz, and still got hampered.
It is a real shame that Dembele will have to spend another spell on the sidelines. On his day, he has the potential to be one of the best young players in the world. However, he has barely been fit enough to compete for a place in the starting XI given that he has made only 86 appearances in a Barcelona shirt.
In fact, things were finally starting to look positive for Dembele this season. He featured for Barcelona in eight of their eleven La Liga matches and scored one goal. His productivity in the Champions League has been more visible, with 3 goals and 2 assists from 4 out of 5 appearances for Barcelona.
Assuming that there are no further complications in the Frenchman’s injury, he will probably miss games till January, but it could be more if the club want to be more cautious with their injury-prone talent.
Considering his injury-plagued tenure at Barcelona, the fact that he is being linked with a move to Manchester United is extremely strange. That is because the Premier League is much more physical than La Liga and could be even more detrimental for his career.
