Even buying the PlayStation 5 Pro off a base model is like moving from an RTX 3060 or 3060 Ti to an RTX 4070 level of GPU, likely unlocking graphical features previously available for use.

All You Need to About the PlayStation 5 Pro

If you want to watch the full video from the tech experts at Digital Foundry, who had a brief hands-on with the mid-generation console, it’s embedded below. For games such as F1 24 that received substantial updates for the PS5 Pro, they said upgrading between the base and Pro models genuinely feels like swapping out the GPU on a gaming rig.

Some PlayStation 5 Pro enhancements might not be as eye-catching in other situations, but if you enjoy playing demanding console games in Performance Mode, along with being able to see a wealth of visual effects upgrade so drastically across your favorite titles; then the PS5 Pro is something to consider investing in.

That said, there are no significant visual benefits on offer here over the basic model’s Quality mode, which still looks great at 4K resolution and regular viewing distances. However, they also may catch some of this player base with the ray tracing takeoff that has been superior to what we’ve seen from NVIDIA.

So the PlayStation 5 Pro could be worth such a high price after all. While you can compare the cost of the console to an equivalently power gaming PC, you still get all the hassle and tech support of setting up a gaming PC versus just plugging your PS4 into any HDTV for a completely turnkey solution.

Digital Foundry also touched on the importance of PSSR upscale in the PS5 Pro. This has the effect of not only improving the overall upgrade experience beyond its specs twice but also boosting super-sample ray tracing image quality, although this is not precisely the way it would be if implemented as another form of NVIDIA DLSS 3.5 Ray Reconstruction because Sony’s upscaling does not achieve full input to color representation hysteresis.

Fortunately, players won’t have to wait long to determine if the PlayStation 5 Pro is a worthwhile upgrade from the base model, as the console is set to launch worldwide on November 7th, less than a month away.
