After Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, complimented Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at an awards ceremony held in New York on the fringes of the UN General Assembly on Tuesday, the Italian premier and Musk were dubbed the “perfect couple” on the internet.

When netizens saw the two together at the event, their comments, such as “I am totally shipping these two,” went viral online. “That is the kind of international power couple I can get behind,” and “Perfect” Additionally, several individuals added, “That’s Amore (That’s love).”

“I want to find someone who views me the same way Meloni views Musk,” a another person commented. On Wednesday, though, Musk shut down all of the comments by responding to a post on X that asked whether he and Meloni “would date.”

The two leaders have been partnered by the internet before. Following Musk’s acceptance of Meloni’s invitation to attend a political festival in Rome in December of last year, there were multiple posts on X, the former name of Twitter, claiming that the two were together.

Elon Musk remarked that it was an honor to give Giorgia Meloni the Atlantic Council Global Citizen Award, saying that she is even “more beautiful on the inside than she was on the outside.”
Additionally, he continued, “she is someone who is authentic, honest, and truthful— and that can’t always be said about politicians.” For her “strong support of the EU and becoming the first female prime minister of Italy,” Meloni was given the prize.

In the past, memes of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister Vivek Meloni would periodically appear on the internet, mockingly depicting their romantic relationship. Some posts even imagined a conversation between the two over the phone. Memes of this kind became widely popular on social media, particularly after the BJP lost the Lok Sabha elections and during the G20 Summit in India. Additionally, users generated a #Melodi by linking the names of Meloni and Modi.


Meloni used the hashtag in a selfie she shared with Modi in December of last year, following their meeting in Dubai on the fringes of the COP28 summit. She and Modi also posted an identical photo in June of this year.
