Varane’s second-to-last match and final full appearance came during Manchester United’s FA Cup victory in May, which he called a fitting conclusion to his illustrious career. He added that he will remain with Como in a new off-field role, details of which he plans to reveal soon.

Raphael Varane Full Retirement Statement:

“They say all good things must come to an end. In my career, I have taken on many challenges, rising to the occasion time and time again, overcoming what was once thought to be impossible. The emotions, special moments, and memories will last a lifetime.

Reflecting on these moments, I announce my retirement from the game we all love with immense pride and a sense of fulfillment. I hold myself to the highest standard and want to go out strong, not just holding on to the game. It takes courage to listen to your heart and instincts. I have fallen and risen many times, but now it’s time to stop, with my final game being a trophy win at Wembley.

I’ve loved fighting for myself, my clubs, my country, my teammates, and every supporter. From Lens to Madrid to Manchester, I have given everything to defend each badge, and I’ve cherished every minute of the journey. Competing at the highest level tests your body and mind like nothing else. As athletes, we are never satisfied, never fully accepting of success, and that’s what fuels us.

I have no regrets. I’ve won more than I could have ever dreamed of, but beyond the trophies, I’m proud that I’ve always stayed true to my principles. I hope I have made you all proud.

A new chapter begins off the pitch. I will remain with Como, just without my boots and shin pads, and I look forward to sharing more about that soon. To the supporters of every club I played for, to my teammates, coaches, and staff—thank you from the bottom of my heart for making this journey more special than I ever imagined. Thank you, football. With love, Rapha.”
