The contracts of Liverpool’s three biggest stars run out next summer. Mohamed Salah, Virgil Van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold’s deals run out in the summer of 2025.

Van Dijk has commented that he wants to continue being the club’s captain for a few more years. As a result, there is good reason to believe that the Dutchman will renew his deal in due course, having established himself as a key figure on and off the field.

Trent Alexander-Arnold pointed out something interesting when he was asked about his expiring contract.

“I have been at the club 20 years now. I have signed four or five contract extensions and none of those have been played out in public. This one won’t be either,” the right-back said after Liverpool’s win over Bournemouth.

So, in spite of the links to Real Madrid, it seems like he will remain at his boyhood club after all. However, Mohamed Salah wasn’t so optimistic when speaking about his future.

“I was coming to the game and I was saying, ‘Look, it could be the last time’ [he plays at Old Trafford].

“Nobody in the club talked to me yet about contracts so I was just like, ‘OK, I play my last season and see at the end of the season,” the Egyptian said.

“I feel I am free to play football – we will see what happens next year.”

So, after establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s best forwards over the past seven years, the talismanic winger could leave next summer. While a move to Saudi Arabia has been rumoured, there is no telling where he could end up. Even after this, he might end up staying at Anfield with a new contract, given there is ample time left.

Who is Liverpool’s new manager?

Arne Slot, previously of Feyenoord
