Sunil Chhetri heaped praise on Hyderabad FC after Bengaluru FC’s recent win over the Nizams. The former Indian captain came off the bench to score a brace in the club’s 3-0 win.
And in the process, he became the joint-highest goalscorer in the history of the ISL with 63 goals to his name. Chhetri is tied for the record with former Hyderabad FC striker Bart Ogbeche. He spoke to IFTWC after the game, and offered his thoughts on the game and his opponents.

“It wasn’t easy playing against Hyderabad FC. I am sure that they have had their share of struggles. What I’ve heard is that they trained only for three and a half or four weeks, which is far from being ideal. But credit to them for putting up a fight and making us think hard. If you saw – in the first half, they were really good,“ Chhetri said.
The 40-year-old now seems closer than ever to breaking the all-time ISL goalscoring record, with the feat achievable in the next few games. However, the Blues face Mohun Bagan SG in their upcoming fixture, which will be one of their toughest games of the season.
But in the same interview, Chhetri said he was looking forward to the challenge of facing his former club.
