One of the most popular K-dramas ever, Hellbound season 1 quickly made waves, amassing over 43.48 million viewing hours within just three days of its release in 2021. As Netflix gears up for season 2, fans can expect a thrilling continuation with a deeper story, even gorier scenes, and chilling plot twists.

Hellbound Season 2

Season 1, written by Choi Gyu-seok, first premiered at the prestigious 46th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), making history as the first Korean TV series to be featured at the festival. Building on that success, Hellbound season 2 is slated to debut at the 29th Busan International Film Festival in October 2024, keeping the momentum strong for this gripping horror series.

Hellbound Season 1: Recap

When Netflix first released Hellbound in 2021, the official description perfectly captured the chaos and horror that defined the series. The story centers around terrifying supernatural events that occur in the heart of Seoul. Mysterious beings condemn individuals to be hellbound, appearing at the exact moment foretold to brutally kill their victims through fiery executions.

Amid the confusion and fear, Jung Jinsu, the charismatic leader of a rising religious group called The New Truth, steps forward. He preaches that only sinners are chosen for damnation, interpreting these terrifying occurrences as divine judgment meant to make humanity righteous.

However, The New Truth’s extreme faction, known as Arrowhead, takes matters into their own hands. Driven by blind faith, they violently punish anyone who defies what they believe to be divine will, turning the world into a living nightmare.

Hellbound Season 2: Plot

Season 1 introduced viewers to terrifying beings called executors, who appeared mysteriously to condemn people to hell. In the aftermath, a religious group called The New Truth emerged, led by chairman Jung Jin-su (originally portrayed by Yoo Ah-in). The organization’s followers determined the fates of those in South Korea, creating a culture of fear and blind devotion through a subgroup known as Arrowhead.

In Hellbound season 2, Netflix teases that the storyline will delve even deeper into “the hell within,” focusing on the consequences of clashing collective desires and interests.

Hellbound delves into themes of superstition and cults as the world is thrown into chaos by mysterious creatures. In season 2, the story continues from where season 1 left off, focusing on the religious factions—the New Truth, the Arrowheads, and Sodo leader Hyejin. They must confront the shocking return of the condemned, who are resurrected from hell. As these supernatural forces grow stronger, the fight against the demonic beings intensifies, pushing humanity to the edge. Expect even more intense battles and dark twists in this thrilling K-drama.

Hellbound Season 2: Cast

Season 2 will see some changes in its leading cast. South Korean actor Kim Sung-cheol will take over the role of Jin-su, previously played by Yoo Ah-in. Kim Sung-cheol is widely known for his role in the popular Netflix K-drama My Beloved Summer (2021).

In addition to Kim Sung-cheol, other returning and new faces include Kim Hyun-joo, Kim Shin-rok, Yang Ik-june, Lee Dong-hee, Lee Re, Lim Seong-jae, Jo Dong-in, Moon Geun-young, and Hong Eui-joon.

Hellbound Season 2 Release Date
