Manchester City could receive a 100-point deduction for FFP breaches, says financial expert

Manchester City’s hearing for their 115 FFP breaches over the past decade will begin on Monday, 16 September. Amidst the massive legal procedure’s beginning, financial expert Kieran Maguire told talkSPORT that the club could face a deduction of up to 100 points.

He weighed in on the matter and pointed out that Everton and Nottingham Forest had points deducted recently for minor breaches. Similarly, for so many charges, it would make sense for the authorities to want for the club to head out of the division for the sake of maintaining integrity.

Manchester City could face 60-100 points deducted for FFP breaches

“It can’t really be a financial punishment because that would make everybody think the whole thing was a waste of time,” Maguire added.

He also speculated that it would take till 2025 for a final decision to be announced. Moreover, the club has been accused of disguising payments to players from third parties and Abu Dhabi for their services.

The immense amount of evidence will take a while to sift through, with each individual charge likely to be analysed individually. Therefore, a timeframe of four months is realistic for the hearing to conclude, especially given the magnitude of the matter.

Will Manchester City get relegated if found guilty?

It is possible, since Juventus and AC Milan were relegated in the early 2000s
