The 2024-25 ISL season is beginning on September 13, 2024, just 132 days after the previous season wrapped up. This edition marks significant milestones, including the participation of 13 teams for the first time, with Mohammedan SC joining as the newly promoted team from the I-League. This season will feature matches in a home and away format, and notably, all three Kolkata giants—Mohun Bagan, East Bengal, and Mohammedan—will compete together in the ISL.
Mohun Bagan Super Giant will enter the season as the holders of the ISL League Winners’ Shield, having secured a record 48 points last season. Meanwhile, Mumbai City FC will defend their title as the reigning ISL Cup winners, having defeated Mohun Bagan 3-1 in the final to capture their second cup.
In terms of competition structure, the team with the most points at the end of the league will secure a spot in the AFC Champions League 2 group stages. The top two teams will advance directly to the ISL semi-finals, while those ranked third to sixth will compete in knockout games for the remaining semi-final spots.
