The nominees for the 2024 Yachine Trophy have been revealed, with 10 names in contention for the prestigious award. The winner will be named at the Ballon d’or ceremony, to be held on Monday, October 28, 2024 in Paris.
Arguably the biggest surprise is the inclusion of South African captain Ronwen Williams in the list of nominees. The 32-year-old is the first goalkeeper in history to be nominated while playing for a club in Africa.

Here is the list of the nominees for this year’s Yachine Trophy:
- Giorgi Mamardashvili – Valencia, Georgia
- Gianluigi Donnarumma – PSG, Italy
- Yann Sommer – Inter, Switzerland
- Andriy Lunin – Real Madrid, Ukraine
- Ronwen Williams – Mamelodi Sundowns, South Africa
- Gregor Kobel – Dortmund, Switzerland
- Diogo Costa – Porto, Portugal
- Mike Maignan – AC Milan, France
- Unai Simon – Athletic Club, Spain
- Emiliano Martinez – Aston Villa, Argentina
It truly is anybody’s guess as to who could come out on top this year in the Yachine Trophy. However, Emiliano Martinez perhaps has the best shot yet again after guiding Aston Villa to a Champions League return and winning the Copa America with Argentina. On the other hand, Unai Simon could also win having helped Spain win Euro 2024 and the Copa del Rey as well.
However, Andriy Lunin could also be a surprising winner after playing a crucial role in Real Madrid’s LaLiga and Champions League title win.
