Wout Weghorst has completed a permanent transfer to Ajax from Burnley, as officially confirmed by the club. The striker returns to the Netherlands after six years, having last played for AZ Alkmaar in his native country.
The Dutch forward has spent the last two seasons on loan at Besiktas, Manchester United and Hoffenheim. He couldn’t quite make a mark at Burnley, having scored only twice in 22 games. However, his spell at Wolfsburg saw him stand out and find the back of the net regularly.

“Wout stands for an absolute top sports experience, and we find that extremely important at Ajax,” Ajax technical director Alex Kroes told the club’s website.
“He is a prolific striker who constantly makes things difficult for every opponent.
“There are many matches coming up in the next few months, so we are happy that Wout is joining us.”
The 32-year-old has signed a contract till 2026 with the record Dutch champions as they aim to reclaim the Eredivisie title. It remains to be seen if the 39-cap Netherlands international can hit the ground running and make a difference for Ajax right away.
