After it was shown off in a preview available to developers a few years later, Gemini Gems is coming out today. Gemini will allow users to create custom chatbots, called Gemini Gems that can be used for fitness coaching, coding assistance, and translation— just a few examples. This is similar to the custom GPTs available in ChatGPT.

The Gemini Gems feature requires a Gemini Advanced subscription, priced at $20 per month. A few custom Gems that Google has created include Brainstormer for ideas, Career Guide for career advice, Coding Partner for ways to get better at programming, and Learning Coach to help you master new topics — with Writing Editor also giving a boost in writing skills.
There is also an option to create bespoke Gems for those whose needs the existing ones don’t meet. Yes, but it should be noted that Gemini Gems only supports creating custom instructions — no uploads of files are allowed. This is a limitation as the Gems could be more personalized and specific if I were able to include further knowledge beyond what was seen by my model during its training.
