The 31-year-old rejoined Chelsea in 2021 for a massive fee worth €113 million from Inter. However, things didn’t work out for him and he returned to the Nerazzurri just a year later. After reportedly discussing terms with Juventus towards the end of his loan spell, he was cast aside by the Inter fans as well.
He then signed for Roma on loan for the 23-24 season and enjoyed moderate success. Now, he will be leaving Chelsea permanently again, and will reunite with Antonio Conte at Napoli, with whom he won the Scudetto while at Inter.
It remains to be seen if the Belgian can turn things around and revive his career by keeping himself away from controversy with a permanent exit.
