James Milner has set a new record in the Premier League by becoming the only player in history to feature in 23 consecutive seasons. The 38-year-old was named in the starting line-up for Brighton as they strolled to a 3-0 win against Everton.

Last season, the veteran drew level with Ryan Giggs of Manchester United, and has now surpassed the Welshman. Milner played 82 minutes before being replaced by Billy Gilmour.

Once known as a midfield dynamo at Manchester City and Liverpool, Milner has managed to stay fit and competitive for a very long time. The former Leeds United midfielder’s record will surely stand for a long time, with few close to achieving this incredible tally.

Interestingly, he is seven years older than Brighton’s current and youngest manager ever, Fabian Hurzeler. And his leadership will surely play an important role in the team’s performance heading into the new campaign.

It now remains to be seen what kind of role the veteran will have in the team and how regularly he plays for Brighton.
