Lee Carsley has been appointed the interim head coach of England for their upcoming fixtures in the September international break. The Three Lions will begin their campaign in the UEFA Nations League, and will be led by the interim head coach.
Carsley previously managed the U21s, and has now made the step up to the senior team for the time being. The FA accepted Gareth Southgate’s resignation after he failed to win the Euros in spite of reaching the final for a second consecutive time. But, they haven’t been able to find a permanent replacement since then.

Carsley guided the U21 team to victory in the 2023 Euros, which was the country’s first major tournament win since 1984. He has also coached various development teams at the club level including Manchester City, Sheffield United and Coventry City.
“My main goal is to ensure a smooth transition while the FA continues their search for a new permanent manager,” he stated. “Securing promotion in the Nations League is our objective.”
It now remains to be seen which players get the call for the Nations League fixtures and whether he is able to win the fixtures in September.
