Conor Gallagher is all set to join Atletico Madrid from Chelsea, after agreeing a contract with the LaLiga side. The two clubs have an agreement for a fee worth €40 million, and the player is set to travel to Spain for his medical today.
The Premier League club had offered their academy graduate a two-year deal with the option for another year later on. The deal would have seen him become one of the best paid players in the squad. However, the length of the contract was seemingly not enough for the midfielder to commit as he could have been sold a year or two later as well.

The 24-year-old was not included in the club’s pre-season tour of the USA, partly because of his commitments to the England national team which reached the final of Euro 2024.
However, he is now set to leave his boyhood club in spite of wanting to stay. Chelsea’s need for pure profit has led to them selling yet another academy graduate. Fans aren’t happy with Gallagher leaving, since he is one of the few academy graduates still in the team. But Trevoh Chalobah could follow him through the exit door soon.
Interestingly, Chelsea are set to sign Samu Omorodion from Atletico Madrid for €35 million once they have completed the signing of Julian Alvarez for €75 million.
