East Bengal have officially announced the signing of Hector Yuste on a free transfer. The centre-back becomes the sixth foreigner of the squad to complete the team’s foreign contingent.

The Spaniard becomes the first overseas player of the ISL era to play for both the Kolkata giants, having featured for Mohun Bagan SG last season. The 36-year-old played a key role for them last season, starring in the heart of the defence and keeping eight clean sheets.

Yuste seems like the final piece of the puzzle for the Torch Bearers, who have acted very smartly in the transfer window. They have added to every position on the field, building a formidable attack and midfield before completing the defence as well.

Hector Yuste will likely arrive for the latter stages of the Durand Cup, if East Bengal can make it out of the group stage. He is expected to pair with Hijazi Maher in central defence. However, he could be asked to rotate with Lalchungunga as well.

ISL rules only allow four foreigners to be fielded at any time. As a result, Carles Cuadrat will likely have a tough time balancing game time and adding quality to all aspects of the game. It’ll also be interesting to see if East Bengal now go in for Anwar Ali, who is currently trying to terminate his loan move to Mohun Bagan SG.

How long is Yuste’s contract?

For one season, expiring in 2025.
