David Alaba’s time at Bayern Munich looks set to be over when the 20/21 season reaches its conclusion and the player’s contract expires. Here are some of the most probable destinations for the defender, who will be available for free in 2021.Â
Barcelona
Despite Koeman at the helm, the Blaugrana need reinforcements at the back. And a player of David Alaba’s stature could be exactly what they need to replace, or partner with Gerard Pique amidst the presence of Lenglet and Umtiti at the club.
In addition, the player is keen to move to Barcelona as well. So the chances of him being snapped up by the Spanish giants are better than most.
Manchester City
At the Etihad, the defender could assume his original role as left-back as he could reunite with former coach Pep Guardiola as well. The coach and the player both have great respect for each other, and Pep could use Alaba’s talents on the left if his team is to compete in Europe as well as in England.
Juventus
The Old Lady was the rumoured destination for Alaba this summer, but the deal ultimately did not go through. Still, Juventus are in the hunt for the Austrian and are among the many elite clubs willing to battle for the player. Given their track record of free transfers, the Bianconeri could strike again with this one.
Liverpool
A backline featuring Virgil Van Dijk and David Alaba in centre back would be absolutely invincible. Add to that the attacking qualities of Robertson and Arnold, and you have the new era of invincibles at your disposal.
Thiago could be a valuable asset for Liverpool to negotiate the transfer, and there have been direct links between the player and the club as well.
Real Madrid
Sergio Ramos is entering his last few years as a top footballer, and will need replacing eventually. David Alaba could be the perfect solution for Real, as he could fill in the left-back role as well, while replacing Ferland Mendy. Much like Barcelona, the player prefers a move to Madrid over the lot, so there is a reason as to why it could work out.Â
