Real Madrid have filed a complaint with the Spanish Tribunal for Administration of Sport against Javier Tebas, the President of LaLiga. The legal proceeding is surrounding the deal with CVC that was signed in 2021.
Los Blancos have accused the LaLiga president of not following the due process in regards to the deal. In August 2021, CVC acquired 10% of LaLiga’s TV rights for around €2 billion for the next 50 years. At the time, the majority of clubs voted in favour of the decision but were expected to be given a notice of ten days. However, Madrid reportedly only received eight before the assembly was called.

They, alongside El Clasico rivals Barcelona, Athletic Club and CD Ibiza were against the CVC deal at the time. Madrid have tried to take steps against the deal on three occasions before as well, but have failed to get the decision in their favour.
There have been rumours of Javier Tebas facing a suspension if found guilty of the bureaucratic error. The lack of transparency and misuse of power involved on the President’s part is the main sticking point of the lawsuit.
“It seems that someone does not accept that their Super League has been unanimously rejected by all of world football and that CVC’s project with LaLiga was ratified with all the guarantees by an overwhelming majority of 39 of 42 clubs and ratified by the courts,” Tebas wrote on his official Twitter account in response to the case.
“It seems that someone, an expert in political mamonism, has to activate desperate means to try to impose his particular way of seeing football. Well, make no mistake, we will continue working and we will continue defending ourselves with all the forcefulness.”
The President’s statement opens up a whole new angle to the case involving the European Super League, which is spearheaded both by Barcelona and Real Madrid. The pair also opted out of the CVC deal, and it remains to be seen if the case creates further chaos given the tensions between the parties involved already.
