“It was an incredible feeling,” Hull said after her historic run. “Being alone on the last lap with everyone cheering me on, I just kept my eyes on those lights, hoping they wouldn’t catch me.”

Preparation and Determination

Hull’s journey to this record breaking moment has been marked by intense preparation and unwavering determination. She credits her success to maintaining her health and building a strong, resilient body over the past four years.

“There are for sure some women who can run that 5:19, but for now, I have my place in the history books. I ran hard for this record; I worked extremely hard for this,” Hull added.

Significance of the 2000m Record

While the 2000m is not an Olympic event, Hull’s performance is a significant indicator of her form and potential as she heads into the Paris Olympics. This record showcases her ability to maintain a high speed over a substantial distance, making her a strong competitor in her primary events.

Hull’s achievement was one of several notable performances at the Monaco Diamond League. Algerian runner Djamel Sedjati set a new Diamond League record in the men’s 800m, clocking an impressive 1:41.46, making him the third fastest 800m runner in history. Additionally, Norway’s Jakob Ingebrigtsen broke his own European record in the men’s 1500m, finishing in 3:26.73.
