intel‘s Arrow Lake-S and Arrow Lake HX CPUs are expected to be launched in the first half of 2024 with a new cache infrastructure compared to Lunar Lake CPU specifications as follow up product after Raptor Lake will significantly increase AI TOPs. That said, leaker @Jaykihn has posted an extensive breakdown of these premium chips and how they will compare to their predecessors – the Raptor Lake-S CPUs as well as the refreshed Raptor Lake-HX.

More About the Intel Arrow Lake-S & Arrow Lake-HX CPUs

The latest Info says Arrow Lake will borrow much of the same cache configuration seen on Lunar Lake, utilizing Lion Cove P-Cores and Skymont E-Cores. A few differences do exist, such as the changes in L2 and L3 cache sizes. The P-Cores will have 3 MB (12-way) of L2 cache per core and the E-Core cluster of which there are four cores in total will utilize a 4-MB (16-way) shared L2 cache. Lion Cove P-Cores will have 3 MB of L3 cache and Skymont E-Core clusters will also pack in 3 MB of L3.

Arrow Lake processors will come in either an 8+16 or 6+8 SKU so there are two main dies. The top die configuration has up to 36 MB of L3 cache and a total cache pool, combining in at 76 MB is claimed to be higher by 12% compared with Raptor Lake-S/HX CPUs. The 6+8 setup, meanwhile, allows for up to 24 MB of L3 cache with a total pool of around 50MB worth of caches combined – roughly about +13.5% more than what the Raptor Lake-S 6+8 configuration would offer.

In terms of AI capabilities, the Arrow Lake CPUs will see a significant boost, with GPU TOPS increasing from 3 TOPS on Raptor Lake to 9 TOPS with the newer Xe architecture. The integrated NPU is rated at 13 TOPS, and the CPU itself will offer 15 TOPS, resulting in a combined 37 AI TOPS, comparable to the Ryzen 8000G “Hawk Point” APUs. Other enhancements in this release consist of PCIe Hot-Plug support, extended ESPI device implementations as well the newly added I3C interfaces.

Overall, Intel’s Arrow Lake-S and Arrow Lake-HX CPUs, set to debut on the LGA 1851 (800-series motherboards) platform and high-end laptops, promise significant performance enhancements and expanded capabilities over their predecessors. The Arrow Lake-S lineup, including K-Series processors and Z890 boards, is expected to launch in October, with early performance figures already emerging from ES2 samples.

FAQs

What are the key upgrades in Intel’s Arrow Lake-S and Arrow Lake-HX CPUs?

Intel’s Arrow Lake-S and Arrow Lake-HX CPUs feature enhanced cache configurations with up to 40 MB of L2 and 36 MB of L3 cache, alongside significant AI performance improvements with up to 37 AI TOPs. These enhancements aim to deliver superior performance and efficiency compared to previous Intel CPUs.

When will Intel’s Arrow Lake-S CPUs be available for purchase?

Intel plans to launch the Arrow Lake-S series, including K-Series processors and supported by Z890 motherboards, in October. Initial performance benchmarks based on early engineering samples (ES2) suggest notable performance gains over current-generation CPUs.
