With the deadline for applying to the India national team head coach job closing on July 3, the AIFF has confirmed that it has received 291 applications for the role.

This includes 100 UEFA Pro License diplomas applicants, 20 AFC Pro License diplomas applicants and 3 CONMEBOL license holders, all of whose profiles will be evaluated over the coming weeks.

AIFF to decide next Indian head coach by end of July

“We are hoping to onboard the candidate by end July, to ensure India utilise the September FIFA window participation. As a next step, our committee headed by AIFF Vice President Mr. NA Haris (along with Committee Chairpersons of Technical, League, Competitions, Finance, Development and the Treasurer) will review the applications, before placing the select list to the Executive Committee,” said President Kalyan Chaubey.

The AIFF recently had a public war of words against former head coach Igor Stimac. The battle was sparked by the Croatian’s comments scrutinising the football board, after his contract was terminated.

With former captain Sunil Chhetri playing his last game for the national team against Kuwait, India is all set for a new chapter in its football journey. And with a thorough hiring process, the AIFF will hopefully choose a name compatible and capable of taking the young and exciting team ahead.

How many years was Igor Stimac in charge of India?

Five years since 2019
