Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed that Euro 2024 will be the last time he plays at the tournament finals.

The striker endured a difficult Round of 16 tie with Portugal against Slovenia, with his penalty saved by Jan Oblak. Ronaldo was eventually able to beat the Atletico Madrid keeper in the penalty shootout, but burst into tears after his first miss.

Cristiano Ronaldo leaves a historic legacy at the Euros

🚨🇵🇹 Cristiano Ronaldo: “This will be my last Euro, of course”.

“But I’m not moved by this, I’m moved by enthusiasm”.

“I was sorry for the fans. I'll always give my best for this shirt, whether I miss it or not. And I'll do this my whole life. You have to take responsibility”. pic.twitter.com/lFlfs8nPo6

“Without a doubt it’s the last Euro [for me], of course it is,” Ronaldo told Portugal TV’s RTP.

“But I’m not emotional about that. I’m moved by everything that football entails, by the enthusiasm I have for the game, the enthusiasm I see in the fans, having my family here, people’s passion… it’s not about leaving the world of football. What else is there for me to do or win?”

The Al Nassr striker is currently the top scorer in the history of the tournament with 14 goals to his name. He is also the player with the joint-most assists, and if he can score this time, he will become the oldest to ever score at the Euros.
