In his first season with Atletico, he has made 34 appearances across all competitions, playing as a central defender as well as right-back.

In spite of being 34 years old, Cesar Azpilicueta continues to be a top professional and puts in a shift every time he is on the field. While he might not be the fastest full-back in the squad, he is able to leverage his experience to help the team both offensively and defensively.
Azpilicueta joins Axel Witsel and Stefan Savic as the senior players to extend their deals till 2025, with the Rojiblancos retaining the vital defensive trio for one more season.
On the other hand, they have bid farewell to Calgar Soyuncu, Gabriel Paulista, Mario Hermoso and Memphis Depay, upon the expiry of their contracts with the club.
