India have fallen by three places in the latest FIFA World Rankings, dropping down to 124 from 121. The Blue Tigers drew 0-0 at home against Kuwait and lost 2-1 against Qatar, missing out on Round 3 of the FIFA World Cup 2026 Qualifiers.
After almost making it to the top 100 after their SAFF Championship win, India’s poor run of form has left them reeling in the world rankings.

Only days prior to the release of the new rankings, the Blues parted ways with Igor Stimac, relieving him of his duties after spending five years in charge. The Croatian had a contract till 2026, which has now been terminated by the AIFF.
Moreover, the team is set to enter a new era now that Sunil Chhetri has retired from international football. New faces, particularly in the centre-forward position, are set to come through, with Vikram Partap Singh, David Lalhansanga and Lalrinzuala Lalbiaknia all in contention for a spot up front.
The AIFF is currently on the lookout for a new head coach and is inviting applications from across the globe.
Fans are eagerly hoping that things only get better from here, given how much talent can be utilised in the national team.
When will the new India head coach be announced?
A rough deadline is before the ISL season starts.
