Benjamin Sesko will stay at RB Leipzig this season in spite of interest from Arsenal and Chelsea. Both Premier League clubs were ready to trigger the striker’s €65 million release clause, but have now been put off by his desire to stay in the Bundesliga.

The Slovenian is one of the top-rated young strikers in Europe, having impressed with RB Salzburg two seasons ago. He then joined their sister club in the German Bundesliga, but has not played as much, with Lois Openda and Yussuf Poulsen ahead of him.

In the limited game time the 21-year-old has had, he has scored 14 goals and provided two assists in the Bundesliga – a great return by any standards. However, he has turned down all offers for a move to stay at Leipzig and develop his game before a transfer away.

Arsenal and Chelsea were both in need of a first-choice centre-forward, and Benjamin Sesko was on top of both their lists. Now, they will both have to look elsewhere to find a reliable goalscorer, with few realistic options available on the market.

Sesko will be representing Slovenia at Euro 2024, and will certainly be one to watch, given it’ll be his first appearance on such a big stage.
