Filmmaker Karan Johar, known for his adeptness in weaving tales of love, has surprised fans with the announcement of Dhadak 2. This revelation comes after over a year of speculation and denial regarding the sequel to the 2018 romance hit, Dhadak. The sequel, directed by Shazia Iqbal, promises to delve deeper into the complexities of love, society, and the barriers that divide us.
Surprise Announcement of Dhadak 2
After much speculation and previous denial, Karan Johar took to Instagram to unveil the cast and release date of Dhadak 2. The motion poster featuring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri set the stage for what seems to be an emotionally charged narrative. Scheduled for a theatrical release on November 22, 2024, the announcement has sparked excitement among fans eager to witness this new chapter in the Dhadak universe.
Sharing the post, Karan wrote in Hindi, “Yeh kahani hai thodi alag kyuki ek tha raja, ek thi raani, jaat alag thi, khatam kahani (This story is a little different because there was a king, there was a queen – their castes were different… end of story). Presenting Dhadak 2 starring Siddhant Chaturvedi & Triptii Dimri. Directed by Shazia Iqbal. #Dhadak2 in cinemas 22nd November 2024.”
A Tale of Love Across Divides
In Dhadak 2, Siddhant and Triptii step into the shoes of characters grappling with societal expectations and personal desires. The motion poster hints at the challenges ahead as Siddhant’s character acknowledges the divide between their dreams, while Triptii’s character confronts the dilemma of unrequited feelings. This sets the stage for a narrative that explores the intricacies of love amidst societal barriers.
Sharing the motion poster, Siddhant Chaturvedi wrote, “Ek raja, ek rani, ek kahaani, do dhadkane (One king, one queen, one story–two heartbeats).” “The film explores barriers of class and status stitched in the minds of societies, underscoring a narrative of love that can never be fulfilled. Or can it?”
From Denial to Confirmation
The journey to Dhadak 2 has been marked by twists and turns. Last year, Karan Johar categorically denied reports of the sequel, dismissing rumours with a statement on Instagram Stories. However, recent developments have proven otherwise, signalling a change in plans and perhaps a newfound creative direction for Dharma Productions.
Last year, after reports emerged of Karan making Dhadak 2 with Siddhant and Triptii, he had denied reports. Taking to Instagram Stories, he wrote, “To put this on the record and for all concerned, we (Dharma Productions) are NOT making a film with the title DHADAK 2 as is being reported in various articles…”
About the Dhadak
Dhadak, released in 2018, was a poignant remake of the Marathi film Sairat, exploring themes of young love and societal prejudice. Directed by Shashank Khaitan, the film introduced Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter to Bollywood audiences, garnering praise for its performances and emotive storytelling. With Dhadak 2, the franchise seeks to build upon the foundation laid by its predecessor, delving deeper into the complexities of relationships and societal expectations.
