After weeks of ambiguity surrounding his future, Luka Modric has finally informed Real Madrid of his decision to stay at the club for one more season. The legendary midfielder is in his 12th year as a Madridista, and has decided to add another in spite of rumours that he could finally leave this summer.
The 2018 Ballon d’or winner has seen his playing time significantly diminished this year, having made most of his appearances from the bench. But even then, he has scored two goals and provided six assists in 30 LaLiga games, helping the team win the league title once again.

The 38-year-old recently became the oldest player for Los Blancos to feature in the Champions League. And if he continues next year, he could set the record for himself aged 39.
Modric’s longevity has been simply unparalleled, considering how nimble he still is and how decisive his contributions can be from the bench. His intent to stay doesn’t involve any conditions about salary, as he wants to remain loyal to the Spanish giants.
With his midfield partner Toni Kroos also in line for a new deal, Madrid will likely renew both contracts after their Champions League final on June 1.
